I've been improving a lot recently, thanks in no small part to the masterworks of instruction provided by Andrew Loomis and Jack Hamm (if you don't have access to one of those, you really should). These steps forward leave me more and more often able to stand back from a finished piece and go "Yes!", where before it was "Okay, I can see what I was going for there." This got me thinking again about why I do it.
